TEPS Workshop
TEPS interactions with fisheries in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park: What are the urgent questions that we need to answer to ensure sustainable use of fisheries resources in this multi-use marine park?
📅 WHEN: Monday, 18 August 2025
⏰ TIME: During the conference lunch break
Interactions with Threatened, Endangered and Protected Species (TEPS) have been noted as a potential challenge for the sustainable harvest of fisheries resources. However, in many instances this perception has been based on a lack of information on the species being considered and how they interact with fishing gears. Queensland DPI has identified key research needs regarding the fishery vulnerabilities of TEPS that use the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park (GBRMP). We are seeking expert input to help prioritise these research needs and identify suitable approaches for collecting empirical data to address the knowledge gaps.
We encourage researchers, fishery managers and those with expert knowledge on TEPS to join us and provide advice and insights to inform an R&D strategy aimed at better understanding and minimising fisheries-TEPS interactions.
