ASFB recognises Indigenous people as the traditional custodians and occupants of our land and water, and that they have a spiritual, environmental, social, cultural and economic relationship with their traditional fish and fisheries. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.

The 2025 ASFB Conference took place in Darwin, NT, from August 18 to 21. Held during Darwin’s idyllic dry season, the event combined cutting-edge fish science with excellent networking opportunities, all set against the stunning natural beauty of the Top End. The Darwin Convention Centre, located in the vibrant Darwin Waterfront Precinct, provided a striking backdrop for professional exchange and collaboration in the heart of the city.

The conference theme, ‘Connecting Waters: Science, Policy and People for a Stronger Fish Future’, highlighted the importance of uniting diverse perspectives across research and management to address the challenges facing aquatic ecosystems. The program featured inspiring keynotes, thought-provoking breakout sessions, and dynamic workshops.

Attendees explored new discoveries, shared ideas, and discussed visions and best practices, bringing together science, policy, and people to strengthen the future of fish and fisheries.
